WU Policy and Measures in Addressing Women’s Applications, Acceptance, and Participation
Walailak University is firmly committed to advancing gender equity by actively addressing and conducting diagnostic analyses of women’s applications, admissions, and participation across all academic programs. To foster a more diverse and inclusive applicant pool, the university shall promote educational opportunities for women, with particular focus on disciplines where they have been historically underrepresented. Outreach programs, workshops, and targeted communications will be implemented to encourage and support women in pursuing higher education in any field.
The university’s admissions process shall be structured to uphold fairness and transparency, ensuring gender equity in acceptance rates. In addition, Walailak University will offer scholarships and financial assistance specifically designed to attract and support women, especially in STEM fields, leadership programs, and other areas with lower female representation. These efforts aim to broaden access to academic opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds.
Beyond admissions, Walailak University is dedicated to providing a supportive environment that promotes women’s participation, well-being, and academic success. The university shall offer mentorship programs, academic resources, networking platforms, and establish organizations to empower women throughout their academic journey. Institutional policies will be regularly reviewed and enhanced to promote women’s academic, social, and leadership development, ensuring their continuous engagement and achievement. Through these initiatives, Walailak University reaffirms its commitment to cultivating an inclusive and empowering environment where women are encouraged to thrive and realize their full potential in every aspect of university life. In 2025, WU revised the Policy on Gender Equality, Non-discrimination, and Anti-harassment, B.E. 2568 (2025), as part of WU’s commitment to promoting a diverse community at WU.
Key Implementations of Walailak University to Promote Women’s Applications, Acceptance, and Participation
1. Outreach and Recruitment Programs
Walailak University actively implements and develops targeted outreach initiatives aimed at encouraging women, particularly those from underrepresented communities, to apply for academic programs. These efforts include organizing information sessions, career fairs, and promotional campaigns that showcase opportunities for women across various fields, with a special focus on traditionally male-dominated areas such as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). In 2024, WU engaged and partnered with secondary schools to deliver workshops and information sessions for female students, inspiring them to pursue higher education and demonstrating the possibilities available to them. These collaborative initiatives help cultivate a supportive academic environment, increasing women’s applications, acceptance, and participation in disciplines where they remain underrepresented.

2. Mentorship and Support Networks
The establishment of the Smile and Smart Center stands as a key initiative under Walailak University’s gender equality policy, dedicated to empowering female students throughout their academic journey. The center provides tailored mentoring programs, career counseling, and networking opportunities designed to meet the specific needs of women at the university.
Through personalized guidance and support, the center assists students in overcoming academic and professional challenges, building self-confidence, and developing essential skills for future success. In addition, it fosters an environment that promotes leadership development, lifelong learning, and collaboration among female students. This comprehensive support structure plays an essential role in advancing gender equity and nurturing an inclusive, empowering campus culture.
Recognizing the critical role of financial support in advancing women’s access to higher education, Walailak University has incorporated scholarships for female students into its gender equity policy framework. These scholarships aim to enhance female enrollment and participation, especially for those facing economic challenges. In 2024, Walailak University and its partners awarded scholarships to 1,401 students, totaling 80,528,820 baht, including 980 female recipients. This support enabled female students to pursue their studies at Walailak University without financial burden, fostering women’s applications, acceptance, entry, and active participation in higher education.
The Division of Student Support and Development was established to oversee and manage initiatives such as scholarship allocation, ensuring that financial aid reaches those who need it most. By prioritizing financial support for women, the university strives to create an equitable academic environment where female students have the opportunity to excel and achieve their academic and professional goals.
Walailak University has also developed systems to monitor application and acceptance rates among female students to ensure that women have equal access to higher education. The university tracks these rates across all schools and academic fields, including STEM, Health Sciences, and Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
