Promoting Sustainability Literacy among WU Students
Walailak University recognizes that cultivating sustainability literacy is vital in preparing students to become future leaders in creating a more sustainable and resilient world. To strengthen this foundation, the university provides opportunities for students to engage directly with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an online course offered on Thailand’s Massive Open Online Course (Thai MOOC) platform.
The course, “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Practical Implementation for the Business Sector,” equips students with essential knowledge and practical insights to integrate sustainable practices across diverse fields. It introduces the principles, history, and significance of each SDG while highlighting the pressing challenges of environmental sustainability, social equity, economic resilience, and climate change. Through this learning, students develop a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of sustainable development and the importance of holistic solutions.
A distinctive feature of the curriculum is its focus on Thailand’s pathways to sustainability. Students explore the nation’s Transformative Change Strategy and related action plans, gaining perspective on how global sustainability frameworks can be adapted to national and local contexts while remaining aligned with international standards.
To measure learning outcomes, students complete a post-course assessment designed to evaluate their SDG literacy and readiness to apply this knowledge. This ensures that WU graduates not only understand sustainability concepts but are also equipped to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development within their future professions and communities.

In addition, Walailak University has developed a Google Form-based assessment tool designed to evaluate students’ literacy of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The form consists of a series of questions covering all 17 SDGs, featuring both basic and advanced levels to comprehensively assess students’ understanding of global sustainability concepts.
This platform serves as an additional evaluation mechanism following the completion of the WU SDG MOOC course, allowing the university to measure learning outcomes and track students’ progress in SDG awareness and application. The data collected from this tool will also help enhance curriculum design, ensuring that SDG education remains practical, engaging, and aligned with Walailak University’s mission to cultivate globally responsible graduates.
