        The Sustainability Report of Walailak University is a key document that demonstrates the institution’s commitment to sustainable development and its efforts to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This comprehensive report is published annually, providing stakeholders—including students, faculty, and the broader community—with access to information on the university’s projects, progress, and future sustainability objectives. The report also emphasizes the university’s vision to integrate sustainability into academic operations, internal management, and community engagement.

The Sustainability Report is readily accessible through the university’s official website, promoting transparency and encouraging participation from both the university community and the general public. Times Higher Education (THE), a UK-based organization that ranks universities globally, recently released the THE Impact Rankings 2025, which assess universities’ contributions toward the United Nations SDGs. This year, higher education institutions from around the world participated in the evaluation.

Walailak University ranked 5th in Thailand and 93rd globally in the overall rankings. The university has achieved exceptional performance in several SDGs, with SDG 5 – Gender Equality ranking 1st globally. Other SDGs in which the university is ranked among the top 50 worldwide include:

  • SDG 2 – Zero Hunger: 32nd globally, 2nd in Thailand
  • SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: 33rd globally, 3rd in Thailand
  • SDG 14 – Life Below Water: 38th globally, 3rd in Thailand
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: 39th globally, 4th in Thailand
  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: 50th globally, 3rd in Thailand
  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation: 54th globally, 2nd in Thailand
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: 76th globally, 4th in Thailand

THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on four key criteria:

  1. Research related to sustainable development in the Scopus database
  2. University policies and practices on sustainability
  3. Community engagement and academic services that address societal needs both in Thailand and globally
  4. Teaching and learning that instill principles of sustainable development

The 2025 rankings reaffirm Walailak University’s position as a leading global institution in sustainable development, particularly in Gender Equality (SDG 5), which is ranked 1st in the world. Several other SDGs also feature within the top 50 globally, underscoring the university’s vision as a “regional university of international standards.”
